His PhD thesis, 41-node Man, is a computer model of the human body in a spacesuit that was used to protect and guide astronauts on the lunar surface during Apollo’s 11-17 when he worked at NASA’s Mission Control Center. It is still in use today. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at NASA’s Ames Research Center, he marshaled this work into the first serious study of spacesuits for Mars and built LEGACI, a voice interactive bio-advisory algorithm to serve as a real time mission control companion on Mars.
Over the course of his career, Dr Kuznetz has been fortunate to be exposed to a diverse range of interesting and exciting projects. These ranged from building Space Shuttle Columbia to the search for water and life on Mars to life support system design and testing. From 2001 -2006 he was the NSBRI Flight Projects Manager at the Johnson Space Center overseeing 45 human life science experiments on the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station and authored a White Paper on the subject that was used by congress to improve the Human Research Program.
Dr Kuznetz’ publication list includes one of the first peer reviewed papers to show that liquid water could be stable on the Martian surface and halophile bacteria could survive in that environment. He has authored 5 books including a spacesuit user’s manual for children; an environmental thriller about the first human mission to Mars and an autobiographical journey of life with the space shuttles. He holds 8 US patents, is a consultant to private industry and has been nominated for NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal.
Prior to and during the current pandemic, he developed new paradigms in math and science education for middle schools, high schools and universities, lectured in a variety of public enrichment venues and developed the Q suit, a Covid 19 fighting PPE based on the principals of forward and reverse planetary protection embodied in The MarsSuit Project. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and Private Pilot, an avid classic car collector and plays keyboard at piano bars in his spare time.
Born in the late 50’s Gene was brought up in a traditional mining town in the North of England. Educated at Grammar School he ‘escaped’ the North to study Business Management at the London School of Economics. Other than to visit family he never returned and lived and worked in London for the next ten years.
Gene started his career with Nat West Bank Plc and eventually managed a specialist investment team focused on UK/US partnerships. He transitioned to a similar role with Goldman Sachs based in New York and then Singapore before making his first move into business when he teamed up with Tech Entrepreneur Mel Morris (Minitech, U.Date) who made his fortune from on-line dating and gaming platforms.
Gene went on to develop multiple IT and Telecoms businesses including one of the first privately owned public/private partnerships that managed Telecoms contracts for Hospitals in England and Wales. Gene made his first modest fortune when he sold this business to one of the largest facilities management groups in the UK ten years later. He then duplicated this business in collaboration with a Chinese/Malaysian group based out of Kuala Lumpur, ultimately managing all non-core services for Hospitals across Malaysia. He retired from day to day business management in 2005 and returned to the UK to pursue other interests.
In the past 15 years Gene has developed an extensive property portfolio and he invests in and mentors young entrepreneurs in businesses as diverse as Building Surveyors, law firms and candle manufacturers. He is part of a small Crypto Currency investment group that refer to them selves as ‘Crypto Jedi’. They’ve turned their initial $2 Million investment into a $40 Million portfolio in less than five years.
Gene resides in the beautiful English countryside of Oxfordshire with his gorgeous partner Liz and their blended family of two and a half teenagers.
A long time friend of Dr Lawrence Kuznetz and with a keen interest in the space industry, Gene was invited to join a team that were developing next generation astronauts suits for Mars exploration. The Covid 19 pandemic created a demand for an exceptional level of personal protection and the team adopted some of their Mars suit technologies and concepts to create the QSuit. Gene now leads the QSuit development team and is a primary investor in both the QSuit and Mars Suit programs.
He has logged over 260 hours in such garments, in altitude chambers and a variety of aircraft including balloons and the famous DeHavilland ‘Twin Otter’. His space suit technology is being used in a variety of attempts to balloon to extreme altitudes both in North America and abroad. As the owner of Smith Aerospace Garments, LLC, Cameron is currently building Mars surface exploration training suits for both Poland’s Analog Astronaut Training Center and the University of Arizona’s Biosphere2 / SAM research project.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
